Ashburton Investments is recruiting a Chief Operating Officer, to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Description
  • To manage and oversee the development, design and improvement of the systems that create and deliver business products/services and to focus on operational improvement
Duties
  • Establish overall area budget that enables achievement of strategic intent of business
  • Manage budget to control expenditure and ensure the efficient use of resources
  • Identify and develop opportunities to introduce new revenue streams
  • Develop integrated frameworks, guidelines and optimization plans to drive profitability and economic value add
  • Balance immediate value against long term sustainability and local and global considerations
  • Influence and align strategic intent and delivery to add value for customers and shareholders
  • Balance interests of a variety of clients
  • Readily readjust priorities to respond to pressing and changing client demands
  • Drive an integrated service excellence culture, which enables rewarding relationships and customer feedback in promotion of exceptional service
  • Engage with relevant leaders to collaterally and proactively manage the requirements of relevant function or business
  • Actively seek and contribute to diverse opinions
  • Drive strategic relationships to collaterally make sense of the ambiguity and uncertainty inherent to the organisation
  • Maintain expert knowledge on relevant legislative amendments, industry best practices and FirstRand's internal compliance procedures and requirements
  • Ensure compliance is adopted in terms of systems and procedures as laid out by Group
  • Design and implement a control framework to ensure the integrity of operations and practices
  • Anticipate and apply policies/procedures to manage and control both financial and non-financial risks
  • Ensure compliance with audit requirements
  • Investigate and implement measures to correct audit findings
  • Conduct abstract, conceptual and comparative analysis of high-level reports for strategic decision-making purposes
  • Identify and keep up to date on key national and international policies and economic, political, and social trends that affect the organisation
  • Assure that effective controls are developed and maintained to ensure the integrity of the organisation
  • Formulate effective strategies consistent with the business and competitive strategy of the organisation in a global economy
  • Examine policy issues and strategic planning with a long-term perspective.

  • Understand short-term and long-range plans and determine how to best be positioned to achieve a competitive business advantage in a global economy
  • Communicate a meaningful strategic context that articulates functional purpose in relation to the organisational vision, purpose and philosophy
  • Identify interconnected problems and model alternative solutions to develop and establish contingency plans aligned to the organisation's direction
  • Oversee the business process architecture standards across the portfolio and guide internal stakeholders on the appropriateness and relevance of business processes to match new solutions and evolving business models
  • Ensure that operations activities and project delivery are managed to support profitability and efficiency outcomes
  • Optimize efficiencies, innovation, process improvements, technology governance etc.
  • Develop and establish operating policies procedures and controls consistent with the businesses broad policies and objectives and ensure their adequate execution by monitoring changes in legislation regulations initiatives and relevant industry practices
  • Develop a functional operating model and value chain and ensure alignment to the overall functional and business operating model
  • Leverage FNB resources to develop an appropriate business intelligence strategy and framework including relevant data extraction methods, quality related processes and relevant modelling and analytics to provide insights and assist in future oriented business decisions through business intelligence reporting
  • Process efficiency – Ensure that operational process and controls are aligned to the delivery of the strategic objectives of the company and in compliance with the law and internal policies
  • Ensure that system and other resources are aligned to deliver the strategic and operational objectives of the companies
  • Risk management – responsible for building the controls and managing these against agreed KRI and other control monitoring tools, AML and KYC requirements.
  • Process document and improvement – Streamlining and enhancements to improve client and staff experiences and achievement of strategy and operational objectives of the various business units and Group
  • Ensuring collaboration goals and tools (resources) including IT platform integrations are in place and efficient
Requisites
  • Minimum qualification: A relevant post-graduate business degree
  • Experience: 8-12 years in a similar environment of which 3-4 years ideally at executive level
