NamPharm is recruiting a Clinical Specialist, to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Description
  • The Clinical Specialist will play a critical role in the assessment, treatment and management of patients with acute or chronic wounds and to provide clinically appropriate, holistic care to ostomates
  • This position requires expertise in wound care techniques, advanced knowledge of wound healing processes and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive treatment plans
  • The Clinical Specialist will provide direct patient care, educates patients and caregivers, assists with the procurement of products, supplier relations and promotes best practices in wound management to optimise patient outcomes whilst growing the Nampharm Surgical department
  • The incumbent will also be required to give product related training and to work closely with the appointed supplier/s, whilst growing and developing the Surgical department
Duties
  • These include the following (other duties may be assigned by the Chief Sales and Marketing or Chief Executive Officer as required)
  • Nurture a positive working environment and maintain relationships throughout departments by establishing the Nampharm culture and leadership principles
  • Assist with arranging and maintaining leadership programs
  • Promote and market pharmaceuticals, medical devices, surgical, clinical and wound care related products or healthcare services to healthcare professionals
  • Detailed account analysis – understanding surgery volumes and procedure of the account, mapping of relevant Health Care Professionals, product flow from theatre to discharge of patient, competitor analysis and community referral points
  • Engage with Health Care Professionals to sell in supplier related value offerings, including products and services, and to drive formulary compliance by listening and responding to uncover customer needs, and delivering clinically and commercially appropriate solutions.
  • Partner with Pharmacy owners, managers and/or stock controllers to enable effective management of stock to allow delivery of clinically appropriate care
  • Gather and provide market intelligence at account and tertiary level on relevant dynamics of procedures and competitor activities
  • Plans and documents daily call routine to ensure appropriate coverage of key accounts given sales time allocation, sales potential, geographical location, development of sales process, and utilisation of management information
  • Provides feedback and requests to Sales and Marketing to the organisation to adapt tools/strategies to the market demand
  • Conduct educational sessions, seminars, and workshops to inform healthcare providers about the features, benefits and usage of the company's products
  • Provide training on proper administration techniques, safety protocols and compliance guidelines
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with nurses, nursing educators, nursing managers and other key personnel in healthcare facilities
  • Gather market intelligence by staying abreast of industry trends, competitor activities and customer feedback
  • Provide feedback to the company regarding product performance, customer preferences and emerging market opportunities
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, company policies, and industry standards in all interactions with healthcare professionals
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions and report any potential compliance issues or concerns
  • Work closely with sales and marketing teams, procurement, and other internal stakeholders to develop and implement effective sales and marketing strategies
  • Collaborate on promotional materials, presentations and marketing campaigns tailored to the nursing audience
  • Stay updated on developments in nursing practice, medical advancements, and relevant healthcare regulations
  • Participate in training programs, conferences, and professional development activities to enhance product knowledge and sales skills
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients with acute or chronic wounds, including detailed evaluation of wound characteristics, such as size, depth, appearance, and presence of infection
  • Use specialised tools and techniques to measure and document wound dimensions and tissue types
  • Collaborate with physicians, surgeons, and other healthcare providers to develop individualised treatment plans based on the underlying aetiology of the wound, patient's medical history and available resources
  • Recommend appropriate wound care interventions, including debridement, dressing selection, infection control measures and adjunctive therapies
  • Perform advanced wound care & clinical procedures, such as wound cleansing, debridement (sharp or enzymatic), application of topical medications, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and specialised dressing techniques
  • Ensure adherence to sterile techniques and infection control protocols during wound care procedures
  • Educate patients, family members and caregivers about the importance of proper wound care techniques, wound healing process, signs of wound complications and preventive measures to minimise the risk of recurrence
  • Provide instructions on wound dressing changes, medication administration and lifestyle modifications to support wound healing
  • Assess and manage wound-related pain using evidence-based pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions
  • Monitor patient response to pain management strategies and collaborate with the healthcare team to adjust treatment plans as needed to optimise pain control and comfort
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of wound assessments, treatment interventions, patient responses, and outcomes in electronic medical records (EMR) systems
  • Generate reports, progress notes and discharge summaries to communicate patient status and care plans effectively
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to wound care practices, protocols and outcomes
  • Collect and analyse data on wound healing rates, infection rates, and patient satisfaction to identify areas for improvement and implement evidence-based interventions to enhance patient care
Requisites
  • Qualifications & Experience:
  • Relevant degree or equivalent tertiary qualification – BCur Nursing Science
  • Advantage: relevant degree or equivalent tertiary qualification – BCom Marketing
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, with a focus on wound care and/or related specialties (e.g., medical-surgical nursing, critical care, home health)
  • Minimum 3 years demonstrated successful sales experience in the medical field
  • Code B Driver's License
  • Grade 12 is compulsory
  • Skills:
  • Excellent presentation and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate complex medical information in a clear and concise manner
  • Prior experience in healthcare sales, medical device sales, or harmaceutical sales preferred.
  • Proficiency in wound assessment techniques, wound care procedures, and utilization of wound care products and equipment
  • Strong clinical judgment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and make sound decisions in complex clinical situations
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills, with the ability to effectively convey medical information to patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field of wound care, including staying updated on evidence-based practices, new technologies, and advances in wound management
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team and adapt to changing patient needs and clinical environments
  • Specialized knowledge of appropriate legislation
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Financial, analytical, interpersonal, decision making and negotiating acumen required
  • Ability to interact with people from all levels both internally and externally
  • Written & Oral ability in English (Proficiency in an indigenous language will be an added advantage)
