Coastal Engineer (Internship)

Description

• Namdeb (Pty) Ltd has an opportunity available for a Coastal Engineer Intern at the company’s Mineral Resources Department
• The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of Coastal Engineering duties within Mineral Resource Department, however, the focus will be on Accretion Modelling, Wave Run-up assessment and Coastal Erosion
• This is an excellent opportunity for disciplined, energetic, self-driven and proactive Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering/Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering graduate to gain practical experience and broaden their knowledge base in a Coastal Engineering in Mining environment

Duties

• Designing and undertaking scientific studies pertinent to environmental requirements of mining and exploration programs and critically evaluating the outcomes from an environmental perspective
• Scientific data acquisition, quality control, data management and basic interpretation
• Enthusiastic about working both at sea and outdoors
• Seagoing experience highly desirable
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to function well in a multi-disciplinary team will be essential
• Flexibility and willingness to adapt to operational requirements on short notice
• Ability to interact with contractors and internal stakeholders
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Foster a culture of safe work practices and general safety awareness
• Analytical and report writing skills
• Proven competency track record
• Note that applicants will be required to undergo assessments

Requisites

• Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering/Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Valid Code 08/ BE driver license
• Must be in possession of a valid Code of Conduct
• Familiarity with basic Python/Matlab and data analysis would be an advantage
• Experience in marine scientific sampling would be and added advantage
• Familiarity with scientific and spatial data handling
• Spatial and analytical software skills (ArcGIS, Acquire) will be beneficial
