Hollard is recruiting a Commercial Underwriter, to be based in Otjiwarongo, Namibia.
Duties
  • Responsible for the application of sound underwriting principals on the Commercial Lines book to manage the loss ratios and ensure that a profitable book of business is maintained
  • Key Performance Areas of the Role:
  • Understand and correctly apply sound underwriting principals on all aspects of the Commercial Lines book
  • Prepare and submit instructions for processing
  • Review all new business before processed – to ensure risk is rated and underwritten correctly
  • Prepare all renewal by applying underwriting principals
  • Timeous submission of renewal terms to the Brokers
  • Follow up and timeous submission of renewals to be processed
  • Monthly credit control and unallocated cash to be investigated and action taken to finalize
  • Effective handling of queries from Sales team, Brokers, Clients and all internal departments
  • Correctly submit all documentation to be processed
  • Timeous and correct feedback on queries and info requested by Management
  • Review and underwrite policies after claims
  • Review and underwrite policies with high loss ratio’s
  • Obtain all required documentation in order to comply with company and regulatory standards
  • Adherence to underwriting rules, guidelines and processes
  • Adherence and implementation of all FIA requirements and processes
  • Customer service according to agreed SLA’s with business units and/or customers / brokers
  • Submission of endorsements and cancellation on policies as per requirements of brokers and clients
  • Follow and adhere to all process and system requirements implemented in the daily operations
  • Daily audit and maintenance of the current book of business
Requisites
  • A matric certificate with 25 points and above
  • A CoP in short-term insurance or equivalent
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in a Commercial Lines short term insurance underwriting environment
  • Any other relevant experience
  • Other skills required:
  • Excellent Communication Skills (Oral & Written)
  • Computer Literacy (MS Word, Excel and Email)
  • A high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent time management skills
  • The ability to correctly process high volumes of admin functions per day
  • Good Interpersonal Skills

  • Sound short term insurance background

  • Self-driven
  • Knowledge of I90 will be an advantage
  • Handle pressure effectively
