GIZ is recruiting a Development Worker (m/f), for the administration of the laboratory department of civil engineering, to be based in Ongwediva, Namibia.
Description
  • GIZ has supported the School of Engineering and the Built Environment (SEBE) in the development and implementation of its bachelor's and master's degree programs, while current efforts focus on capacity development for a doctoral student and the purchase of equipment for research facilities and laboratory procedures. The collaboration aims to address the shortage of adequately trained civil engineers by increasing the number of qualified civil engineers and faculty, building research capacity, and strengthening the overall performance of the academic sector
Duties
  • The primary purpose of this position is to work with the Associate Dean/Department Head to manage the overall laboratory operations of the Department of Civil and Mining Engineering (DCME) with respect to:
  • Human Resources
  • Laboratory Operations
  • Servicing Teaching Requirements and Inputs
  • Research Requirements and Inputs
  • Financial Management
  • Equipment Procurement and Training in its Use
  • Facilities Management
  • Project Management
  • Health and Safety Awareness
  • Security Requirements
  • Student Recruitment Awareness
Requisites
  • Civil Engineering degree (BSc & MSc) with relevant work experience of at least five years in addition to general and specific work experience
  • A professional qualification in business administration, management or leadership would be an added advantage
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in the field of laboratory quality management system infrastructure, including at least 5 years of responsibility for training or as a technical assessor in the field of ISO: 9001/IEC: 17025
  • Experience in conducting training and performing audits and/or technical assessments at regional or national level against ISO: 9001/IEC: 17025 standards
  • Fluency in English, good knowledge of German is an advantage
