Santam is recruiting a Financial Manager (m/f), to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.

  • The Financial Manager will aid in the financial and statutory reporting function of Sanlam Namibia including dealing with technical accounting matters and liaising with Group Finance in terms of various ad-hoc financial reporting requirements. This function encompasses both externally directed financial reporting to shareholders and the Board as well as internally focused reporting with regards to management reports. The objective will be the production of timeous and accurate management reports, statutory financial statements, and reports on the overall financial results for Sanlam Namibia
Duties
  • The candidate will be expected to perform (but not limited to} the following duties:
  • Implement the finance strategy to ensure solvency and long-term viability of the organization
  • Manage and report on the overall company financial results, steer budgets, business cases and forecasts
  • Responsible for financial statements, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and interaction with auditors and tax authorities
  • Maintain and improve policies and processes, ensuring best practice solutions are implemented in the Finance & Risk Department where appropriate and when required
  • Act as a Key Individual and identify risks and opportunities with the Risk & Compliance Officer to highlight and manage risks proactively avoiding any adverse impact on the company
  • Oversee and manage personal development, performance management and succession planning of team members and direct reports to ensure optimal and efficient utilization of people resources, talent management and retention of key resources
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate regulations in Namibia
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the IFRS and its application thereof
  • Sound management of the ongoing financial controls, information systems, processes, accounting, and reporting functions
  • Effectively manage, guide, and motivate a large finance department and contribute to a positive team spirit to achieve business and strategic objectives
  • Manage cost efficiency and processes
  • Understanding market profiles (segments) in order to develop the best solutions
  • Quarterly financial reporting to board and regulator
  • Treasury and working capital management
  • External audit coordination and internal audit overview
  • Monthly financial reporting to management
  • Investment management and strategy
  • Providing commercial support/input to the Namibian leadership team
  • Working closely with the Company Secretary and ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory requirements such as the Companies Act, Tax acts and Namibian legal requirements
Requisites
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant
  • 3 - 5 years experience in the Financial Management role
  • Previous experience working in the Financial Services Industry
  • Previous experience working in the Short-Term Insurance industry will be a distinct advantage
  • Comprehensive and extensive knowledge of IFRS, including insurance accounting
  • IFRS 17
  • Insurance Act, Companies Act Tax knowledge
  • Computer literate {advanced Excel)
  • Knowledge of and experience with Hyperion Financial Management would be highly recommended
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills High level of professional report writing skills
  • Attention to detail and strong administration skills in general
  • Strong technical financial and project management skills.
  • Be highly motivated and able to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently but also enjoy working in a fast-paced, team environment
