DBN is recruiting a Senior Legal Collections Officer, to be based in Windhoek, Namibia.
Description
- The Senior Legal Collections Officer is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Collections Unit within the Lending and Client Support Department, focusing on monitoring and managing the collection and recovery of legal and written-off accounts

Duties
- Provide support by ensuring the accuracy of legal documents (e.g., affidavits) prior to the signature of authorized officials
- Coordinate with a Commissioner of Oaths to ensure timely signing of documents
- Monitor collections received through court-ordered settlement agreements, payment arrangements, direct payments from attorneys, asset sales, and proceeds from claims against deceased and insolvent estates, as well as insurance companies
- Provide guidance to the Loan Book Administration team on the appropriate allocation of payments
- Monitor and report on all assets identified for execution and coordinate the execution process with legal representatives
- Monitor and verify the collections processes and recoveries of bad debts through arrangements, settlement agreements made an order of the Court, direct payment from attorneys, sale of assets and proceeds for claims against Deceased and Insolvent Estates and Insurance Companies
- Collaborate with debt collectors and legal representatives to coordinate efforts and ensure optimal recovery results
- Identify irrecoverable accounts and prepare the final report for approval and sign-off
- Monitor and control that all records are returned from lawyers and debt collectors for the proper filing and recording on the Bank’s systems
- Monitor and verify monthly reconciliation of registers, legal fees and recoveries monies received and submit to Manager for review and approval
- Prepare reports on Written-off Accounts, Settlement Agreements, Sale in Executions scheduled, Recoveries and Legal Costs
- People Management:
- Lead and coach direct reports, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Set performance standards/ key performance indicators for the team and track daily and/or accordance with the annual performance reviews
Requisites
- Qualifications & Experience:
- An LLB degree (NQF Level 8) from a recognized and accredited tertiary institution
- A minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in a banking environment of which three (3) years must have been in the legal collection’s environment as a team leader /Supervisory level
- Expertise in the legal processes around Debtor Book Recovery will be an add advantage
- Driver’s license
- Good verbal and written communications skills
- Good customer orientation or focus
- Well-developed interpersonal sensitivity and teamwork
- Attention to detail and sound organizational skills
