Old Mutual is recruiting an Underwriting Manager, in Windhoek, Namibia.
Duties
- Accountable for governance and compliance at an operational level
- Building relationships with peers and/or colleagues that impact across business areas
- Accountable for execution of tactical business plans at operational level
- Making major operational decisions within business plan
- Managing operational efficiency and quality, including a balanced score card to achieve business plan
- Ensuring effective and relevant operational processes
- Leading the implementation of new systems
- Managing service delivery over periods of 3 months to 1 year
- Managing the HR function for the department as well as all day-to-day staff administration
- Driving operational excellence through area of supervision
- Keeping and maintaining Standard Operating processes
- Holding first line managers accountable for managerial work, including selection, performance management and talent management
- Developing MOs and specialists under supervision
- Selecting potential MOs to sustain continuity
- Analysis of various reports in order to take appropriate underwriting decisions
- Ensuring sensible growth and profitability
Requisites
- Namibian Citizen
- Relevant tertiary qualification; e.g. B.com or B. Business admin
- Appropriate Insurance qualification; e.g. Associate, preferably Fellow of Insurance Institute
- Business acumen
- Managerial experience
- Computer literacy and good numeric skills are essential with excellent MS Office skills
- 5-10 years of Short Term Insurance experience, of which at least 2 years in Commercial and Corporate Claims
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Comprehensive practical knowledge of reinsurance: FAC, Treaty and the like
